On Monday, September 30, 2013, Redskins RB Alfred Morris addressed the media following an afternoon practice at Redskins Park in Ashburn, VA.
.
On his ribs:
"My ribs are fine, a little tender still but nothing serious. So I'm all good."
On if he took a "bad shot" that caused the injury:
"No, I didn't. I didn't take a bad shot. Somebody actually went up to me and I was like, 'No, I didn't take a hit.' I guess that's what it looked like. What happened was after that last run when I hit the ground, somebody landed on me and kind of arched my body in a weird way. It bruised my ribs in doing it. It's kind of weird, but it happens."
On if he had X-rays:
"I did. It came back negative, so I didn't break anything."
On if the injury occurred on his final play:
"That was not necessarily the case. It was really tender before, at the start of the game, but it wasn't nothing that I felt like would take me out of the game, so I was like, 'You know, whatever.' I feel like when I fell on it in that play, it was kind of icing on the cake. I had to come out and be like 'Yeah, this isn't something I'm going to be able to walk off.'"
On how long the recovery process will take:
"It really depends on me and my recovery. Different people recover at different rates, so it could be a fast recovery, it could be a slow recovery. But I really don't know. I've never had anything happen to my ribs before, so my return, my guess is as good as any of you guys.'"
On if he feels fortunate to have the bye week as extra time to recover:
"Definitely, it definitely helps out to give you a little extra time to recover and get ready for the next opponent. Even though our bye week is early – nobody likes the early bye week – but at the same time, for me, it's perfect timing."
On if the mood of the team is better at 1-3 than it would have been at 0-4:
"It's a whole lot better. It's just one step in the right direction in getting this bad taste of having a losing record right now out of our mouths. Going into the bye week 0-4, to have that just sitting on your mind the whole entire bye week, you really wouldn't be able to enjoy it. But now, getting that first win – it wasn't the prettiest of wins, but it was a win nonetheless and we stuck together as a team. Like I said, we're family, and we got it done. It was a good start, a good step in the right direction. So hopefully when we come back after having the bye week, get the rest, recover, and we go back and take on [the Dallas Cowboys]."
On how much the hurry-up offense helped the run game:
"It helped a lot, I guess. Even though the hurry-up is kind of tiring from an offensive standpoint, it also tires out the defense. When both of you are tired, it comes down to who wants it more. I felt like as a whole we wanted it more than them. We went out there and we fought a little harder and we dug a little deeper. They were on their heels. When early in the game they would just pin their ears back and come flying up on you, tired – it makes an easy difference. They were tired, we were tired. We were able to just overcome it and do better than what they were doing."
On Sunday proved the depth the team has at running back with him and Roy Helu, Jr.:
"Yeah, definitely. Even if Roy wasn't able to get in there, we still have [running back Evan] Royster and even the young guy with [running back] Chris Thompson. Even throughout the whole preseason, you saw that the running backs were doing great. I didn't get much playing time, but all those other guys were doing great. They were putting a lot of good film on tape, and it just goes to show just the group that we do have. We have a great group of running backs. Anybody can get in there and take over the starting role."
