The Washington Commanders have placed defensive tackle Jonathan Allen and defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste on Injured Reserve amid multiple roster moves on the defensive line.

In corresponding moves, the Commanders have signed defensive tackle Sheldon Day from their practice squad and free agent defensive end Jayln Holmes to the active roster. They have also signed defensive tackle Carl Davis to their practice squad.

Head coach Dan Quinn announced on Monday that Allen suffered a torn pectoral during the Commanders' game against the Baltimore Ravens. Quinn added that Allen will undergo surgery later in the week, ending his season.

"Jon Allen's obviously been the staple player here in his play style and the attitude," Quinn said. "So yeah, we're really bummed for him as the man and the ball player, and we'll certainly miss him this season."

Jean-Baptiste suffered an ankle injury against the Ravens. Quinn said the X-rays came back negative but believed Jean-Baptiste was dealing with some type of sprain. Jean-Baptiste will miss at least the next four games and would be eligible to return in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Day has been on the team's practice squad since August and has eight years of NFL experience. A fourth-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, Day has appeared in 74 games with four starts. He has recorded 85 tackles, seven sacks and seven pass breakups in his career.

Holmes, a fourth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2018, was most recently with the New York Jets and recorded three tackles in the Jets season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Holmes is a seven-year veteran and has 69 tackles with two sacks in his career.

Davis played for Quinn and the Dallas Cowboys' defense in 2023 and recorded three tackles in three games of action. Davis has also played for the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens (the team that drafted him with a third-round pick in 2015), Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts. He has recorded 68 tackles with 2.5 sacks in his eight-year career.
