For the third consecutive year, the Washington Commanders have had a Week 14 bye. The late bye week comes at an opportune time for the Commanders, who snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday to go into the rest week on a high note.
The team's Week 13 42-19 win over the Tennessee Titans means a lot to wide receiver Dyami Brown. He believes it allows the team to get healthy and sets them up for a strong final four weeks of the season.
"We have a little bit of momentum, but we have time to take care of our bodies and finish off the rest of the season strong," Brown said.
Despite having a break, it doesn't seem like football will be off the minds of many in the Commanders' locker room. Everyone seems to be on the same page as Brown, with their plans for the bye including some form of rest and relaxation to be in the best football shape as possible.
Running back Chris Rodriguez, who notched 13 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown against the Titans, isn't letting the bye week slow him down. Instead, he's got his eye on the Commanders' matchups down the stretch with the hopes of providing the team with another big game.
"We got a couple tough games coming up, so we're going to reevaluate ourselves, watch the film, get better from it," Rodriguez said.
Bobby Wagner doesn't plan on taking too much time to relax, either. The linebacker will take one day to himself to chill before getting back to football. "I'm going to have one day where I just don't set my alarm and I'm going to see what happens, so I'm looking forward to that."
Center Tyler Biadasz and quarterback Jayden Daniels will be splitting their time between their respective families and football.
"See some family members and all that great stuff," Biadasz said. "It's huge coming off Thanksgiving for sure, but at the same time, getting our bodies right for this next run and doing everything we need to do. I'm going to do whatever I need to do to get my body to the best I can be, and that's my plan."
Daniels is known for his use of a virtual reality simulator to prepare for games, however, he'll likely be splitting time on the headset with a video game controller to play with his friends during his extra time.
"I just like playing the game with my friends," Daniels said. "Kind of just get away and be around people that have been knowing me all my life."
The most ominous in his plans during his time off is linebacker Frankie Luvu. While he hinted at seeing the newly-released Disney movie, Moana 2, he preferred to take advantage of the week of privacy and keep his other plans under wraps. "As of right now, no comment, but there's definitely something," Luvu said.
The rest comes at an opportune time for the Commanders, who are currently second in the division with an 8-5 record. A playoff push is certainly not out of the question, and Washington will be well-rested when they return to the field for their Week 15 matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Dec. 15.
