The case for seven Commanders players to make the Pro Bowl

Luvu120324

The Washington Commanders are having one of their best seasons of the last two decades, and general manager Adam Peters has done his work to construct a winning team in his first season on the job.

From drafting Jayden Daniels to signing players like Frankie Luvu and extending Sam Cosmi, the Commanders have the pieces in place to have success not just in this season, but for years to come. And with Pro Bowl voting now in full swing, you have the chance to give your favorite Washington players the credit they deserve.

And while we're sure you don't need any extra motivation to vote for a Commanders player, here is a case for seven members of the Burgundy & Gold to be in Orlando, Florida in 2025.

Jayden Daniels

Jayden Daniels has already racked up his share of accolades during his rookie season and is a strong candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year. He had the highest completion rate (91.3%) by a rookie in NFL history against the Cincinnati Bengals; he became the first quarterback in NFL history to have two consecutive games with a completion rate of 85% or higher; and he became the first player in NFL history to have at least 1,000 passing yards and 250 rushing yards in their first five career games.

As if that isn't enough for him for a Pro Bowl appearance, consider this: Daniels is fourth in completion rate (69.6%), fifth in QBR (71.7) and 11th in passer rating (99.4) among all quarterbacks, veterans and rookies alike. He's also just the second player in NFL history to have thrown for at least 2,500 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, have a passer rating greater than 97 and to have rushed for over 500 rushing yards through 13 career games.

Brian Robinson Jr.

True, Brian Robinson Jr. doesn't have as many yards as the likes of Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry. He's still on pace for a career-high in rushing yards, but missing games against the Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers diminished his chances of being a top five rusher.

Robinson is paramount to the Commanders' success, though. They are 3-0 when he rushes for at least 100 yards and 5-1 when he gets at least 16 carries. He's also a load to bring down, as he has 317 yards after contact with seven missed tackles.

Terry McLaurin

Terry McLaurin has stable quarterback play for the first time in his career, and his production has gone up exponentially this season.

McLaurin is statistically one of the best receivers in football this season. He's third in yards behind Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, tied for second in touchdowns, has the fourth longest reception of the season and is tied for seventh in yards after contact. All this has been accomplished despite McLaurin ranking 14th in receptions and 25th in targets.

Here's a stat that further shows how reliable McLaurin has been this season: he leads the league with 20 contested catches. What's more, Commanders quarterbacks have a 141.1 passer rating when targeting him.

Sam Cosmi

Sam Cosmi earned a contract extension from the Commanders for being one of the best guards in football one year after switching from right tackle in 2023.

Cosmi is coming off his best pass-blocking performance of the season with an 87.6 grade from Pro Football Focus against the Tennessee Titans. However, he's been a reliable player all year with just one sack and four quarterback hits allowed.

Frankie Luvu

The Commanders signed Frankie Luvu this offseason believing that he was on the cusp of hitting another level in 2024. They were so right about that prediction.

Luvu is having a career year as a pass-rusher, having already racked up eight sacks and 12 quarterback hits -- both being personal bests -- through 13 games. That former number leads all linebackers this season by a sizable margin, and the Commanders have used him all over the field to create mismatches. His pass-rush grade of 80.3 ranks 10th for his position.

Dante Fowler

Another defensive player having a career year, Dante Fowler Jr. leads the Commanders with 8.5 sacks to go with 10 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for loss. Although not technically a starter, Fowler has emerged as one of the most disruptive players on the roster and hit a second wind in his nine-year career.

A good example of his impact came in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers, when he returned an interception back 67 yards for a touchdown. He became the first Washington player since Week 8 of the 1999 season with one pick six, one sack and one tackle for loss since defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson.

Bobby Wagner

Bobby Wagner has been a model of consistency throughout his 13-year career. He's been to the Pro Bowl nine times since 2014 and looks on pace to do so again with 104 tackles. The veteran is ranked 12th in total stops this season with a 78.4 grade from PFF.

But let's consider the historical significance of Wagner hitting 100 tackles for the 13th time in his career. He joined London Fletcher as the only other player to record 100-plus tackles in at least 13 straight seasons in NFL history. Plus, the fact that Wagner can produce that number as one of the oldest active players in the league adds even more to the impressiveness of the feat.
