The Washington Commanders have signed safety Sheldrick Redwin and released kicker Riley Patterson.
Redwine, a fourth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2019, has appeared in 34 games with eight starts. He has recorded 77 tackles in his career to go with one interception and three pass breakups.
Redwine spent his first two NFL seasons with the Browns, where he got his first start in Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019. He started the rest of his rookie season, putting up a career-high 42 stops.
Redwine was waived before the 2021 season and signed with the New York Jets, where he went back and forth between their active roster and practice squad. After a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers, he was signed by the Miami Dolphins in October of the 2021 season and promoted to the active roster in December. He spent most of his time with the Dolphins on special teams.
Redwine signed with the Indianapolis Colts at the end of the 2022 season before getting picked up by the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent most of the time on the practice squad but was elevated to the active roster for the Cowboys' Week 12 game against the Commanders.
