Game status | Marshon Lattimore ruled OUT vs. Dallas

game status

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore will not play in the Washington Commanders' Week 12 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys this weekend, head coach Dan Quinn confirmed in his Friday press conference.

Lattimore, who was acquired via trade with the New Orleans Saints on Nov. 5, has not practiced with his teammates since he joined Washington. There was some hope from Quinn that he would suit up later in the week, but Lattimore was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

There are two main factors holding Lattimore back from making his Commanders debut. He is dealing with a hamstring injury that has limited him to doing work off to the side. The other reason is that he still needs to learn more about the Commanders' defensive system. Quinn said Wednesday that he and general manager Adam Peters never expected Lattimore to be in a "plug-and-play" situation and that the cornerback's ramp-up period would take time.

While Quinn informed reporters that Lattimore would be out for his fourth straight game dating back to his time with the Saints, the head coach did also provide some positive news.

"Progress is being made," Quinn said. "There's speed work, strength work. The good news is that the work on the side is increasing, so progress is there," Quinn said.

Quinn added that Lattimore is also starting to get a firmer grasp on the system by going through walkthroughs and being in meetings with his teammates. He believes Lattimore is getting closer and has optimism that Lattimore could make his debut next week against the Tennessee Titans.

"It's really more when you're ready, and if that was earlier than the bye [week], then that's when it would be," Quinn said. "If it [the hamstring] is fully healed and able to do all the things, the top speeds, then that would be the marker."

In terms of the other players on Washington's injury report, Austin Seibert is questionable after missing the last two games with a hip injury. Seibert has been a reliable pickup for the Commanders after struggling to find an answer at kicker in training camp. He's 22-of-22 on his extra points this season and 25-of-27 on field goal attempts, including a 55-yarder against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Commanders are also coming into their matchup with the Cowboys healthy on the offensive line. Each member of the starting five, as well as swing tackle Cornelius Lucas, will be available for Sunday's game. Brian Robinson Jr., who missed the Giants and Steelers games with a hamstring injury, was not listed on the injury report and will head up the Commanders' rushing attack.

Rookie defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste, currently on Injured Reserve with an ankle injury, was a full participant all week and is questionable. The team could activate him on Saturday but has the next two weeks to make that decision.
