Keenan Robinson is apparently staying in the NFC East.
According to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports, Robinson will be joining the New York Giants after the University of Texas product briefly tested free agency waters for the first time in his career.
Robinson, 26, had an interesting career with the Redskins after being selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
At 6-foot-3, 238 pounds, Robinson had the size and strength to man the middle of the defense with a blend of athleticism and authority.
During his rookie season, Robinson appeared in 11 games as a backup to London Fletcher, a player he was pegged to replace at some point.
But on Nov. 27 of that year, Robinson was placed on Injured Reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. Robinson would make a speedy recovery in time for the start of the training camp in 2013, but on the first day of practices at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va., he suffered another pectoral tear, resulting in a lost sophomore NFL season.
With Fletcher calling it a career that year, Robinson jumped into the starting lineup in 2014 and looked more like a seasoned veteran than someone who barely had any NFL experience, as he recorded 109 tackles, three passes defensed and 1.5 sacks in 13 games while earning the team's Ed Block Courage Award.
Robinson would start the 2015 season off strong, recording 24 tackles in the Redskins' first four games, but between a shoulder injury and inconsistent play, he would fall out of the starting lineup and did not return when healthy, as Will Compton excelled with the opportunity given to him.
Robinson moving on isn't a surprise to the Redskins, as head coach Jay Gruden said in February that he was probably going to "land somewhere else."
"I know he had high hopes of playing very well for us," Gruden said. "Unfortunately the injury bug hit him. And I think when he hurt his shoulder initially it hindered his performance. Then we kept him out, let him rehab it, let him get better. And when he did come back that's when Compton was playing very well and we didn't want to take Compton. Keenan finished off strong for us, was good in the locker room."
The Redskins extended a tender to Compton, an exclusive rights free agent, while Mason Foster, Perry Riley Jr., Adam Hayward and Martrell Spaight are under contract for the 2016 season.
