The Washington Redskins have acquired a fifth round (No. 156 overall) selection and a 2021 third-round selection from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for tackle Trent Williams.
The fifth-round pick, which is the No. 156 overall selection in this year's draft, now gives the Redskins eight picks overall. The team started Day 3 by selecting LSU's Saahdiq Charles with the 108th overall selection. The full list of Washington's future picks are Nos. 142, 156, 162, 216 and 229.
The added pick gives the Redskins another opportunity to bolster their roster. In addition to Charles, their draft class already includes Ohio State defensive end Chase Young, who many view as the best player in the draft, and Memphis running back Antonio GIbson, who they view as a versatile piece who can play in a variety of roles. The list of Washington's remaining needs include wide receiver, tight end and cornerback.
The extra draft pick also gives vice president of player personnel Kyle Smith and head coach Ron Rivera more ammunition to trade up in the draft for the right player. Smith said the Redskins are always looking to add impact players on both sides, and they will "wait and see" what situations present themselves.
"It's just a matter of letting the board speak to you," Smith told local reporters after Round 1. "If we have the ammo to do that then we'll absolutely talk about it, but the offer has to match what we feel about the player."
