If you were lucky enough to enter the Barrowboy and Banker, located just south of London Bridge, after waiting patiently outside the pub, wade and weave through the masses of fans wearing burgundy and gold and then make your way to the bar for a pint, you just might have had quite the memory.
For 10 minutes, Redskins owner Dan Snyder, along with team President Bruce Allen, Rick "Doc" Walker and Chris Cooley manned the counter, pouring pints and handing them out to eager Redskins fans, some of whom had lived in Englans and waited their whole lives to see Washington play overseas, others of whom had made the trek from home in the DMV.
If elbow room wasn't necessary for a good time, everyone inside the spacious pub certainly had it. Larry Michael kicked things off at the top of the stairwell, overlooking the sea of fans, who sang "Hail to the Redskins" on cue and often spontaneously.
Then he passed the mic to Joe Theismann, Clinton Portis, LaVar Arrington, Walker and Cooley, all of whom said variations on a theme that everyone in the pub could cheer about – beating the Bengals.
"We're here for a victory," Walker said after consuming some fish and chips.
And so it was, an ideal blend of American football and British flavor, and an excitement that will last well into Sunday's fixture with Cincinnati.
