The Redskins are bringing back nine-year defensive end Ziggy Hood and offensive lineman Vinston Painter for the 2017 season, announcing their re-signings on the second week of free agency.
The Washington Redskins on Wednesday announced the re-signings of defensive end Ziggy Hood and offensive lineman Vinston Painter. Terms of their deals were not disclosed.
Additionally, defensive end Ricky Jean Francois has been released.

Hood, a 2009 first-round pick out of Missouri, spent his first five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before splitting time between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
The Missouri product signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Redskins last February, but was not only able to make the 53-man roster, he appeared in all 16 regular season games with 14 starts.
The Amarillo, Texas, native, collected 33 tackles along with three passes defensed and a fumble forced. He appeared on the 10th most defensive snaps (661).
It was during training camp, less than a year removed from a foot injury that limited him to just two appearances with the Bears, that Hood proved valuable along the defensive line.
"I'll tell you what, Ziggy Hood has jumped out a lot," head coach Jay Gruden said in August. "The one-on-ones, he does extremely well, and I think during the team periods, he's active. He shows up. What you're looking for in defensive linemen, you obviously want them to be sound in their run game, but you want to see guys show up. He's disruptive. He's a smart football player who has played a lot of football. Like I said, he just shows up and does a good job."
Painter, 27, originally joined the Redskins as a practice squad addition before being called up to the active roster in October.
The Virginia Tech product appeared on 10 offensive snaps during the season.
Painter was tendered as an exclusive rights free agent along with Ty Nsekhe on Feb. 28.
With his return, the Redskins currently have nine offensive lineman currently on the offseason roster, as he joins tackles Trent Williams, Morgan Moses and Isaiah Williams along with offensive lineman Ronald Patrick, guard/center Spencer Long and guards Brandon Scherff, Arie Kouandjio and Shawn Lauvao.
Painter played collegiately at Virginia Tech from 2008-12, appearing in 32 career games with 13 starts – all coming during his senior season. He earned honorable mention All-ACC honors by the league's coaches.
Jean Francois, meanwhile, spent two seasons with the Redskins after signing with Washington on Feb. 27, 2015.
The LSU product appeared in all 32 regular season games, collecting 57 tackles with 3.5 sacks and two passes defensed.
