Born and raised in the Washington, D.C., area, Roman Oben watched on as the Redskins would become one of the best teams during the 1980's, winning two Super Bowls and making a third as well.
After playing collegiately at Louisville, Oben would spend 12 seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers.
Oben was reminded Tuesday why he started, and kept, playing football during a visit to Redskins Park in Loudoun County, Va.
"Great meeting today w/ @Redskins#CommunityRelations dept! As a native Washingtonian, the 80's #Skins teams are the reason I wanted to play in the #NFL - #Hogs #OlinePride #JoeGibbs," Oben captioned the photo on Instagram.
In January, Oben was named the NFL's director of youth football.
According to NJ.com, his new role will direct youth and high school football efforts and coordinate with key stakeholders in those areas, as well as contribute to strategic thinking behind the NFL's efforts."
