Later in the first quarter, quarterback Kirk Cousins found wide receiver Pierre Garçon for a 16 yard gain, part of a drive that would net them a field goal.
Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan recorded his first sack of the game on the next Giants drive.
The Redskins got into the end zone with one big play. Cousins found wide receiver DeSean Jackson bulleting deep over the middle for a 63-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 10-0.
Running back Matt Jones caught a screen pass for 45 yards to ignite an 80-yard scoring drive thanks to some good blocking downfield.
On that same drive, tight end Jordan Reed caught a 20-yard pass to get the Redskins into the red zone.
After a Jamison Crowder catch ended up being just short of the goal-line, Cousins outstretched the ball on fourth down to put the Redskins up 17-0.
