Coach Lutz has been the head coach of William Byrd High School’s football program for five years, where he led the Terriers to a 12-1 record in 2023 and oversaw a district championship and the first regional championship in school history.

Ahead of the Commanders’ New Years Eve game, SeatGeek Legends Plaza was bustling as the 2023 Shop Black Market provided a special hub for fans to learn about and buy goods from local Black-owned businesses.  

The Commanders and Toys for Tots aren’t new partners, but the relationship has taken on an increased vigor this year.

Washington has welcomed a new su-paw star to the squad! Barney comes to the team as part of a brand-new partnership with Warrior Canine Connection, a Maryland-based nonprofit that breeds, trains and places highly-skilled service dogs with veterans in need. The young Labrador is named in honor of Colonel Harvey Curtiss "Barney" Barnum Jr., a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam.

The Washington Commanders and Bank of America joined forces with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland for a volunteer build day to support affordable housing and community projects in the local area. On Wednesday, April 17th, volunteers from the Washington Commanders and Bank of America rolled up their sleeves and donned their hard hats as they joined Habitat for Humanity to help with volunteer projects such as Allium Place, a new affordable housing community, and neighborhood engagement projects at Montgomery County Public Schools. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the Commanders' and Bank of America's ongoing commitments to making a positive impact in the local community.

To celebrate Women's History Month, the Women of Washington hosted a panelist event at DC Prime on Saturday, March 16th. The event was hosted by Commanders in-game host, GeNienne Samuels, with a panel of four women making a profound impact within the sports industry. Our panelist included: Sally Nnamani, Lois Cook, Lis Driscoll and Chanelle Reynolds. All proceeds of this special event were donated to the Washington Commanders Charitable Foundation.

From holiday givebacks and hospital visits to football clinics and a fashion show, the Commanders spent the season spreading cheer and making a difference in the DMV community.

Started by the Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr and his wife Cherry in 2017, the Starr Children’s Fund raises funds to support childhood cancer research, treatment and caregiver support. One key way the Fund has done this in recent years is through Helmets for Heroes.

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is the league’s most prestigious honor and acknowledges NFL players who excel on the field and demonstrate a passion for creating a lasting positive impact beyond the game in their communities.

In partnership with the NFL, AED maker Defibtech, the Professional Football Athletic Training Society (PFATS) and health care supply distributer Henry Schein, the 32 teams around the league are donating AEDs to local high schools within each NFL club’s city.

On Sunday, Washington Commanders punter Tress Way will be facing off against Atlanta punter Bradley Pinion, but throughout this season, the two players are on the same team helping a cause bigger than football.
