This week's Beyond The Sidelines feature focuses on veteran Madison, currently a child and family therapist who hopes to one day be the head of her own company.
Beyond the sidelines I am a child and family therapist for a mental health agency in Washington, D.C.
I received my master's in social work from Howard University. I am truly devoted to helping people function the best they can in their environment.
As a fourth-year on the team, something that I have learned by being a cheerleader that has helped me away from actually cheering and performing is to enjoy every moment.
Getting adjusted to being a professional cheerleader is not easy. It is so easy to get caught up in events, games and performances.
However, it is important to embrace those moments and realize "You are living the dream."
I have been to events, military tours and promos, and every time I am reminded of grateful I am to encounter such amazing people.
It is a humbling experience.
Never take for granted your talent or an opportunity. This time goes by so quickly, you just really have to take it all in and enjoy it. Enjoy life!
Eventually, my long-term career goal is to run my own startup company.
Ideally, I would like to have a private practice that caters to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender families and communities.
Also, a few of my hobbies besides dance are interior decorating, reading, traveling and planning my wedding for 2016!
