Redskins.com: Beyond cheering for the Redskins, what else do you do for work?
Maya: "Currently, I work as a Market Research Analyst for a Federal Government Contracting Company. I am still in the process of running my own PR firm –virtually – too. I figured that understanding the marketing side of how a business operates is great knowledge and experience to have under my belt before starting my own company."
*Redskins.com: What's your idea behind starting, and eventually, running your own company? *
Maya: "I believe entrepreneurship runs in my blood! My parents are such go-getters and have motivated me to work my butt off for what I love. It's not easy. I have failed many times but I've used my mistakes to help me mature in my career. Every day I learn something new. Sometimes, I can't fall asleep at night because I have so many ideas that I'll have to wake up and take notes before I forget.
Redskins.com: How do you balance a job, your own business and not only being a cheerleader, but a captain as well?
Maya: "I don't know what it's like to not have a full schedule. Honestly, I think it's what keeps me so motivated. The way I look at it is you should wake up every day with a purpose. Why waste your time or energy on doing things that just keep you stagnant? So, yes, sometimes it can be hard balancing cheer, being a captain and having a full-time job, but I am very passionate about all of these things. And whenever I get overwhelmed I just remind myself how extremely fortunate I am.
