It's pretty clear that when tight end Jordan Reed plays, he makes the team better. That was evident in his 11 catches, 72 yards and two touchdowns, the last of which provided the eventual go-ahead score in the closing seconds of the Redskins' 31-30 comeback victory Sunday over the Buccaneers.
It's also pretty clear, then, why Nationals superstar Bryce Harper would relate to Reed. The MVP candidate and slugging outfielder means a whole lot to his team and so he tweeted his thoughts on the tight end's gutsy performance yesterday during the Redskins victory.
It was nice to see, considering the Redskins defensive line showed some love to the Nats last month when the unit threw out the first pitch at one of Washington's final home games.
"He's a great pass catcher obviously," head coach Jay Gruden said earlier Monday. "You know, we line up in our two tight-end sets, keep them in their base personnel, it's a matchup issue for the defense. He's very good in zone coverage and he's excellent after the catch. He's also improving on his blocking skills, which is huge, so the defense just can't count him as a receiver all the time. I think his game is coming a long way from training camp from last year to this year. I think he's understanding the route concepts, his route discipline is getting much better. He means a lot to this offense."
After missing the last two games due to a concussion he suffered against the Eagles, Reed seems primed to make up for lost time and become the #DC #Beast that he is.
