Case Keenum has spent most of his career as a journeyman quarterback. After spending one season with the Redskins, it appears he is on the move again.
Keenum, who started the 2019 season as the Redskins' starting quarterback, reportedly agreed to terms on a multi-year deal with the Cleveland Browns. It will be Keenum's fifth team in as many years.
After going undrafted in 2012, Keenum stayed in his home state of Texas by signing with the Houston Texans. He was placed on the practice squad for his rookie season and later beat out Matt Schaub and T.J. Yates to be the starting quarterback in 2013. He spent the next five seasons with the Texans, Rams, Vikings and Broncos before the Redskins traded for him with a sixth-round pick.
Keenum competed with veteran Colt McCoy and first-round pick Dwayne Haskins during the training camp to be the starting quarterback. Keenum eventually won the job and was under center for the season debut against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although he was only 1-7 in eight starts and was eventually replaced by Haskins, Keenum finished the season with solid numbers. His completion percentage (64.8) and passer rating (91.3) were the second-best of his career, while his 11 touchdowns were his third-best.
In 10 games, Keenum threw for 1,707 yards and averaged 107.7 yards per contest.
Keenum did enough with the Redskins to prove to the Brown that he still has the ability to be a quality backup. According to reports, Keenum signed a three-year deal worth $18 million, ensuring that he will backup Baker Mayfield for the foreseeable future.
