Quarterback Kirk Cousins has done just about everything right in the second half of the season, leading come-from-behind victories, winning down the stretch and securing an NFC East Championship. His accomplishments this season have made his impending free agency look lucrative.
CBS Sports posted an article from an agent's perspective, analyzing the best and worst of 2015, and Cousins makes the list in positive light, deemed the player with the "Best Use of a Contract Year."
The Redskins and Cousins have already expressed interest in negotiating a new contract to stay with the team, and for good reason.
The 2012 fourth-round pick took the starter's job this year and steadily improved over the course of the season. Cousins has the NFL's best completion percentage at 69.5 percent, is seventh in the NFL with a 99.2 passer rating and eighth with 3,990 passing yards. In the second half of the season, Cousins has thrown 16 touchdowns to two interceptions, posting a 122.1 passer rating.
"As an ascending player that has demonstrated he can be an effective starter, the Redskins should be willing to pay Cousins like an average starting quarterback on a veteran contract," writes Joel Corry, a former sports agent.
