Hall-of-Famer Darrell Green visited Westfield High School in Chantilly, Va., to recognize Kevin Petrillo as a U.S. Army-Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence finalist on Monday.
The Redskins great presented him the award, which highlights the achievements of student-athletes across the country, in front of his classmates and family during a formal ceremony.
Finalists were determined based on athletic, academic and civic achievements and Petrillo fit the bill perfectly. He's among an elite group of 20 finalists who have demonstrated excellence in all they do and have an understanding of the importance of adaptability and versatility when working as a team.
All finalists will be honored in Canton, Ohio, during the enshrinement week this summer and will attend the enshrinement ceremony for the Class of 2016.
It was probably the best interruption that Petrillo's classmates could have asked for today.
