Many fans were curious as to why Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins didn't join fellow Redskin Trent Williams on Pro Football Focus' Top 101 players of 2016. The Redskins offense had a record setting year led by Cousins, who had the best year of his career.
Even though he didn't make the Top 101, he did make another Pro Football Focus list, highlighting the Top 10 players who could make an appearance on the Top 101 list next season.
Cousins fell just short of making this past year's list. "His 85.9 overall grade ranked eighth among QBs, and he just missed the Top 101 for 2016," Pro Football Focus wrote. "If not for a bit of a bad start to the season, he could have graded even higher—from Week 6 through the end of the regular season, Cousins was the fifth-highest graded quarterback in the league."
Cousins did finish with a better passer rating of 97.2, better than four quarterbacks who ended up on the top 101 list; Derek Carr, Andrew Luck, Mathew Stafford, and Russell Wilson.
Now, we'll wait to see if Cousins will be eligible for the list while playing on a long-term contract or the franschise tag next season.
