Five years later, Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins still has vivid memories of what he went through at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine.
Cousins wasn't the only talented signal-caller to workout in front of NFL scouts that year. He went opposite former Redskins quarterback, now Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson – both of whom are extremely athletic quarterbacks.
"I guess I picked the wrong year to come out in the [NFL] Draft, because there were so many talented quarterbacks," Cousins said.
Every athlete that walks in the doors at Lucas Oil Stadium is put to work by the 32 NFL teams – all of whom leave no stone unturned in their evaluation of players.
Cousins can remember his time in Indianapolis being very difficult to navigate through.
"My Combine was a grind," Cousins said. "A lot of testing, both mental and physical. It's a little stressful [and] it's competitive. I think somebody fell running the 40 [yard dash]. It might have been a wide receiver that tripped like halfway down and ran into one of the cameras. That's one of those deals where you're just glad it wasn't you."
The NFL Scouting Combine might have been one of the toughest experiences Cousins has ever had in his football career, but he made it through, and he's got some memorabilia to show for it.
"I still have my Combine t-shirt and sweatshirt with the No. 3," Cousins said. "I think I'll keep it forever."
