It's somewhat unlikely that a 16-year-old from Azusa, Calif., grows up to be a Redskins fan. But then consider that his father is a big fan and raised him well, that he plays the saxophone and enjoys the Redskins Marching Band and that Redskins great Billy Kilmer is from the same town in California.
And then consider the culmination, in which the same teenager would go to the Redskins-Saints game, get a private tour and behind the scenes look at FedExField, meet with the Redskins Marching Band director and then get to have lengthy chat with Kilmer about their hometown in California.
That was the case for Joaquin, a 16-year-old who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in August 2014 and nearly lost his life, now in remission and received a Make-A-Wish opportunity to fly into Washington, D.C. with his two brothers, two sisters and parents.
He chose the right game, too.
During his visit, Joaquin toured the club level, saw Sean Taylor's locker, visited the Hail Wall, stopped by the press box and then headed down to the sidelines to greet some players and cheerleaders.
After meeting some special guests, Joaquin also participated as a first half kick-off kid and enjoyed the game from dream seats behind the end zone.
Then he watched the Redskins crush the Saints, the perfect ending to a perfect day.
