Before recently completing his 27th season as the head baseball coach for Sacred Heart University, Nick Giaquinto was an H-Back for the Washington Redskins who earned the nickname "The Trashman" for his ability to play multiple positions and fill several different roles.
From 1981 to 1983, Giaquinto helped contribute to a team that would eventually go on to win Super Bowl XVII over his former team, the Miami Dolphins.
"Team-wise, of course, is winning that Super Bowl and being in the locker room after that game," Giaquinto told Vin Ebenau recently of his favorite moment. "As a team and as an individual who's played football, that's what you dream about when you're a kid."
Giaqunito also remembered all of the fantastic players he was able to call teammate during his three seasons in Washington, D.C.
"But playing with the Redskins with Joe Theismann and Art Monk and Darrell Green and John Riggins and The Hogs and all those guys was definitely very exciting," he said. "Against Green Bay, I had a couple receptions up the sidelines, a couple 35-, 40-yard receptions where usually I was doing a short pattern. But Gibbs saw a certain matchup where they thought they could get me deep a couple times and they did."
