Washington Redskins cornerback Quinton Dunbar is one of five players up for Week 12 Rookie of the Week honors.
Dunbar – a converted wide receiver – recorded a key interception off of Eli Manning in the third quarter of the Redskins' 20-14 victory over the Giants.
As Manning, who had already thrown two interceptions in the first quarter, dropped back and tried to hit Rueben Randle in the back of the end zone for New York's first score of the day, Dunbar jumped the route to get his first career interception.
"I mean it's just special to be in this moment, period," Dunbar said. "I grew up wanting to play in the NFL, now I'm here. I grew up watching Eli Manning, so and I made a play on him, so that's special to me."
Dunbar started his NFL career as a college free agent wide receiver, but based on potential on the defensive side of the ball and with the Redskins short of cornerbacks in the heat of training camp, the team elected to move his position.
"As a wide receiver, you know it was going to be tough for him to make it numbers-wise unless it was a special teams-type deal," Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said. "So we tried him on special teams on the punt trying to hold up the flyers, the gunners. He was real long and was really good at that. So I just put him over there because we were short on DBs. One day I said, 'Go over there with the defensive drills with Perry [Fewell] and see how it goes.'"
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper, Denver Broncos guard Max Garcia, Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls and Baltimore Ravens running back Javorius Allen are also nominees.
