The day before the Super Bowl saw another football game take place in Santa Clara, but this charity game had significantly lower stakes than the main event on Sunday.
Celebrity Sweat hosted its 15th annual Flag Football Challenge at Buck Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University on Feb. 6 and three current Redskins were there to participate in the festivities.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins led the Blue Team against Rashad Ross and Ricky Jean Francois of the Red Team, and, in the end, the Red Team, led by Doug Flutie, earned the one-point victory, defeating Cousins and the Blue Team 59-58.
The game brought out current and former NFL players as well as musicians, actors, and even UFC fighters, none of whom were concerned with playing defense.
Before the game, teams were welcomed to the field by the marching band and cheerleaders from the host university and two nearby high schools. To honor America and pay homage to the Wounded Warrior Project – the organization received the profits from the game – there was a flyover by the Navy just before kickoff.
It is still up in the air whether or not there was a friendly wager placed on the game that Cousins will have to make good on once the team returns in the spring.
Ross had three touchdowns, and one particularly memorable 30-yard run that saw him zig-zag all over the field, dodging six flag pulls, much to the crowd's delight, before finally going down.
He shared a link to his highlights on Twitter and Youtube. Check them out.
