The wait for the checkered flag may have been extended on a stormy night in Florida, but in the end, Dale Earnhardt Jr. pulled away from the pack to claim victory at the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
With the clock approach 3 a.m. on the East Coast, Earnhardt Jr., a well-known Redskins fan, raced past a massive accident.
And while he was involved in the accident that took out several championship contenders, fellow Redskins fan and Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin still managed a third-place finish.
This is Junior's second win of the season, as he was also the first driver to cross the finish line at the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
He is currently in second place in the Sprint Cup Standings, while Hamlin remains in the thick of things in 12th place.
NASCAR moves to Kentucky next for Sunday's Quaker State 400.
Congrats again, Dale!
