Redskins' general manager Scot McCloughan knows that in order for his team to be successful in the NFL nowadays, he has to stock both his offensive and defensive lines with players who love to get down and dirty.
McCloughan seems to have made Washington's defensive line that much more bullish with Saturday's addition of former Temple defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis, a fifth-round pick with the No. 152-overall selection.
The Redskins get a leader in Ioannidis, who was a four-year letter winner with the Owls.
Here's a list of Ioannidis' accomplishments in his junior and senior seasons:
2015
All-America Third Team by Phil Steele
All-Conference First Team by American Athletic Conference
All-Conference First Team by Phil Steele
All-Conference by ECAC
All-Conference preseason First Team, Athlon Sports
American Athletic Conference Honor Roll (10/10/15)
2014
All-Conference Second Team by American Athletic Conference
All-AAC Second Team by College Sports Madness
Midseason All-AAC Second Team by Phil Steel Publications
Preseason All-AAC Third Team by Athlon Sports
Ioannidis was impressive at Temple, he dazzled at the Senior Bowl, and he put on a show at the NFL Scouting Combine. It seems like there's nothing that phases this young man; a trait which should serve him well at the professional level with the Redskins.
