It's been a pretty monumental week for linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.
Last Wednesday, he turned into a made-for-TV-movie star with a few scenes in "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No," where he got to make some distress calls to David Hasselhoff as an engineer at NASA.
Nearly seven days later, he was standing in front of media at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center, smiling and reflecting on a contract extension with the Redskins, the team that drafted him.
"I mean it's kind of coincidental, you know, it gets done after seeing my Oscar award winning performance of mine in Sharknado (3)," he said jokingly.
Well, the news made it to Capitals' centerman Brooks Laich, who took to Twitter to wish Kerrigan a hearty congratulations. Laich has been a longtime leader for the Caps, so his tweet most certainly reflects the entire team's position.
After all, Kerrigan has called the Verizon Center his second home during the offseason.
Laich also used Kerrigan's nickname, "The Heartbreak Kid," which is quickly catching on within the DMV circle.
Remember when we made #HBKerrigan a thing?
We'll be seeing it for many years to come now.
