It was announced yesterday, via West Lafayette News, that linebacker Ryan Kerrigan has pledged $250,000 towards the construction of a new football performance complex for Purdue University, his alma mater.
It's part of the Boilermakers' "Ever True: The Campaign For Purdue University," and Kerrigan's donation has helped raise $13.4 million overall for the project.
"It's important for me to give back because I was really fortunate to have the time that I did at Purdue," Kerrigan said. "I love this university, I love the people I've gotten to know through it, and if I can be a part of giving back and helping the future teams and future student-athletes, then it's my honor to be a part of that.
Kerrigan played for the Boilermakers from 2007-2010, earning All-American status for Purdue. He's also a member of Purdue's "Den of Defensive Ends."
Kerrigan is no stranger to giving either. He started his "Blitz for the Better Foundation" in 2013 and was the team's nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award this season.
"Guys like Ryan just get it," said Morgan Burke, Purdue vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics. "They understand the demands on our student-athletes and the need to have first-class facilities that are centralized to improve efficiency. It says so much when one of our own steps forward, and I thank Ryan for his gift and unwavering support."
