If there's one thing you should know about Redskins second-round safety Su'a Cravens, it's that he loves football. Not likes, loves.
"I can't wait to get on the field," Cravens said at his introductory press conference at FedExField last Saturday. "I was just beating myself up because I just found out I'm not allowed to practice until the 13th, I guess. So, that's kind of bothering me a little bit so they're going to have to find a way to keep me out of the facilities 'cause I'm going to find my way in there."
Defensive coordinator Joe Barry went on ESPN 980 on Wednesday and corroborated the love affair, describing his new potential jack-of-all-trades in the secondary at his disposal.
"He's a phenomenal kid," Barry said. "Doesn't like football – [general manager] Scot [McCloughan] always talks about finding guys that are football players and love football -- this kid loves football. He doesn't like it, he loves it. He eats, drinks, sleeps football."
Barry, as has been noted recently, spent some time recruiting Cravens while he was an assistant coach at USC in 2010-2011. Cravens was just a junior at the time they first met.
"I met him on like a junior day, he came to games, I was able to meet his parents," Barry said. "So yeah, I really can't take responsibility for recruiting him because I was gone by the time his senior year happened. But yeah, we had a little past relationship."
"I love Coach Joe," Cravens said. "He recruited me out of high school. I didn't think the Redskins were going to call my phone. They hadn't spoken to me since the combine, and then when I answered my phone and Joe was the one telling me, 'You ready to be a Redskin?' It was like my heart kind of dropped – I was like, 'Really?"
Now, if there's a second thing you should know about Su'a Cravens, it's that he loves to watch television, specifically Seinfeld, and he likes to tweet (a lot) about these kinds of things, too.
He also has some suggestions for what you should be watching.
And, I think it's fair to say, Cravens is the only 2016 draft pick that woke up early to get his Ed O'Neil "Married with Children" fix.
