It takes a special person to play quarterback in the NFL.

It takes an extremely special person to be a successful quarterback in the NFL, because it's arguably the toughest and most heavily scrutinized position in all of sports.

The late Sammy Baugh was definitely ahead of his time when he was with the Washington Redskins. Baugh was not only an outstanding quarterback, he was just as skilled a punter and defensive back, having led the NFL in passing [1,754 yards], punting [45.9-yard average] and interceptions [11] in 1943.

There certainly have been many great quarterbacks who've come before and after Baugh, but when you stack them all up, who's the king of the mountain?

Talk of Fame Network's Rick Gosselin brought up this very topic in his latest poll entitled, "Who's the greatest QB of all-time?" It's a pretty good topic, considering the talent pool Gosselin had to dip into for his list of quarterbacks.

Since we're talking about Baugh, of course he's one of the men to make the cut, along with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, former Browns quarterback, the-late Otto Graham, former Colts and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, former 49ers and Chiefs quarterback Joe Montana and former Colts and Chargers quarterback, the-late Johnny Unitas.

Each man featured in the poll is deserving of the top spot, but in the case of Baugh, Gosselin laid it out for him this way:

"A member of the NFL's 75th anniversary team and also the 1940s all-decade team," Gosselin said. "The sixth overall pick of the 1937 NFL draft who went on to win an NFL-record six passing titles. He spent his entire 16-year career in Washington and quarterbacked the Redskins to NFL championships in 1937 and 1942. His 335 passing yards in the 1937 title game against Chicago set an NFL rookie record that stood for 76 years until Russell Wilson topped it in 2013. He was a four-time NFL punting champion."
