Trent Williams was in Brandon Scherff's shoes five years ago.

Williams, like Scherff, was a first-round pick for the Washington Redskins that had loads of expectations placed on him from the get-go.

And like Scherff, Williams heard all of the talk about hopefully building the foundation for a Hogs 2.0-like offensive line.

But while there's so much going on around him, Williams' advice for Scherff over the next few months is simple: just relax.

"I mean, the season doesn't start until September, so once you get in this building, get around the guys, you're just a ball of nerves for a few months," he said to Larry Michael, Voice of the Redskins, Thursday. "So I'mma just try to tell him to relax and approach the game just like he did in college, and it'll come natural to him."

Williams knows Scherff's a great player who will bring a lot to the Redskins.

The hope is that the two can solidify both tackle positions for years to come and continue to grow under Bill Callahan's direction.

"You don't have to do anything extra – you just accept the coaching, you soak everything up like a sponge, and when it's that time you perform, you just make sure you're very critical of yourself and detail your work," Williams said.

During the first-round of the NFL Draft, the three-time Pro Bowler was actually getting his car worked on, but as he waited for the repairs to be completed, was continually checking his phone for draft updates.

"I thought it was a great pick," he said. "I thought it was expected – I figured we'd take the best available offensive lineman in the draft, and from what I hear, he's definitely one of the best to come through the draft in the last few years. So I think it's going to be a great fit."
