Tress Way And Brother Cole Both Living Out Sports Dreams

The Way family has two sons they can be very proud of.

Born and raised in Tulsa, Okla., Cole and Tress Way both played youth soccer and were punters for Tulsa Union High School.

But while younger brother Cole followed in Tress' footsteps up until that point, their paths have differed since.

Tress would go on to star at Oklahoma before making it onto the Chicago Bears' roster and then the Redskins', becoming one of the best punters in the league last season as he averaged a league-tying best of 47.5 yards per punt.

He's also become a constant figure in community events, something that he noticed in his teammates when he first got to Washington.

"The players have the opportunity to volunteer for community activities," he said. "I've found that I really enjoy working with the NFL Play60 program, where we go out and interact with less fortunate kids. It's actually my chance to be a kid again."

Cole, meanwhile, stayed closed to home during his college career, earning a spot on the University of Tulsa's squad.

While Tress, of course, remained in football, Cole is in a completely different sport: baseball.

As told to TulsaPeople.com, Cole, on a trip with Tress and his wife Brianna to California, found that he had some magic with a baseball in his hand.

"On a lark, Cole visited Brian Turang's training facility to toss a few baseballs. He had been a decent pitcher in high school, but it had been three years since he had seriously played baseball. After growing three inches and adding about 40 pounds to his lanky frame, Cole discovered his fastball was hitting 90 mph — remarkably about 10 mph faster than in high school. Turang was duly impressed and passed on the details of Cole's performance to a scout for the Kansas City Royals," writes Doug Eaton.

Cole is now a member of the Royals' rookie-level team – the Burlington Royals – in the Appalachian League.
