It was winner take all on Wednesday night at Redskins Park when students from Loudoun County elementary schools came to demonstrate their culinary skills.
The Charitable Foundation, in partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, hosted a Fuel Up to Play 60 Smoothie Kickoff Wednesday, March 16th, 2016, at Redskins Park.
The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation hosted an NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 event where students submitted dairy-based smoothie recipes to promote their partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association.
Students from three Loudon County elementary schools came to Redskins Park to demonstrate their smoothie recipes and share them with a panel of judges, including Redskins Executive Chef John Mathieson.
The judges picked one winner, but we'll let you decide which you like best, enjoy!
Lucketts Elementary School: Laney Loo Loo
Ingredients:
2 ¼ cups low-fat milk
3 cups frozen whole strawberries (slightly thawed)
12 ounces low-fat strawberry yogurt
3 medium frozen bananas (overripe, slightly thawed)
15 fresh strawberries
1 ½ tablespoons chia seeds
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
Method:
Place all ingredients in the blender jar and blend for 30 seconds. Scrape sides with a spatula and the blend for another 45-60 seconds or until ingredients are smooth and well blended.
Garnish with a fresh strawberry fan (cut strawberry up to the stem, without cutting it all the way through, fan out the strawberry and place on top of the smoothie).
Yield:
7 ½ cups or twelve-10 ounce smoothies
Lovettsville Elementary School: Sunshine Burst
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups low-fat milk
1 ½ cups unsweetened orange juice concentrate (partially frozen)
6 clementines (peeled and seeded) OR 2 large oranges (peeled and seeded)
1 ½ cups small pineapple chunks (partially frozen)
1 ½ cups medium peach slices (partially frozen)
¼ cup whole brown flax seeds
3 cups low-fat or fat-free vanilla yogurt
½ cup vanilla protein powder (optional)
Method:
Place all ingredients in the blender jar and blend for 30-40 seconds. Scrape sides with a spatula and the blend for another 30 seconds or until ingredients are smooth and well blended.
Garnish with fresh pineapple slices.
Yield:
9 cups or nine-1 cup servings
Hutchinson Farm Elementary School: Berry Banana Blitz
Ingredients:
4 ½ cups low-fat milk
3 cups frozen blueberries (slightly thawed)
6 cups frozen strawberries (slightly thawed)
3 medium frozen bananas (overripe, slightly thawed)
12 ounces non-fat or low-fat vanilla Greek or regular yogurt
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
Method:
Place all ingredients in the blender jar and blend for 30 seconds. Scrape sides with a spatula and the blend for another 45-60 seconds or until ingredients are smooth and well blended.
Garnish with fresh blueberries on top of the smoothie.
Yield:
12 cups or twelve-8 ounce servings.
