Tyler Rutenbeck put up some seriously crazy numbers at the University of Dubuque – a small Division III school in Iowa.

Now it's time for the 6-foot-2, 186 pounder to live out his NFL dream with the Washington Redskins in what he hopes will be just another round of great performances.

Officially signed on Thursday as part of the team's college free agent class, Rutenbeck told THOnline.com that getting this opportunity "means so much to me."

"It's been a dream my whole life," he said. "I can't even put it into words. I'm just very grateful for the opportunity the Redskins are giving me. I'm going to go out there and make the best of it."

To make it to the NFL from Division III is never easy, especially when going undrafted.

But Rutenbeck's numbers during his time at Dubuque – especially during his junior season – put him in an exclusive category.

During his junior year in 2013, Rutenbeck was named a third-team All-American after pacing Division III in receiving touchdowns (22) while also averaging more than 125 yards per game and nearly seven receptions per game.

During his senior year, Rutenbeck hauled in 66 receptions for 918 yards and 11 touchdowns.

"Obviously, Rutenbeck's numbers his junior year were dominating," said Dubuque head coach Stan Zweifel. "Most of those NFL guys say to us that a Division III kid who has a chance in the NFL has to dominate in some form or fashion, and I firmly believe his best days are still ahead of him. The biggest reason he was taken by the Redskins is they feel he hasn't reached his ceiling yet. That part, I really believe is true. He is a superior athlete, and I don't think he has played as well as he is going to play in the future."
