One week ago, Jonathan Allen's life changed.
The Washington Redskins selected the defensive lineman with the 17th-overall pick in the NFL Draft, beginning his NFL journey after a long auditioning and waiting process.
The NFL put together a recap of Allen's couple days in Philadelphia – from his hotel arrival to sitting next to his fiancée and family members while listening to Roger Goodell's announcement – his journey to the Inova Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park and his trip to FedExField for the team's Draft Day Party and introductory press conference.
"To play for the Redskins means a lot," Allen said, sitting next to his Alabama, now Redskins, teammate Ryan Anderson. "I still remember the days when I would come up to the Redskins' facility when we first got Donovan McNabb and I was out there for training camp and watching them. So it's cool to be able to say I can play for the Redskins. But that was then and this is now. This is my job and this is my business. It's so exciting and it's fun, but I'm just ready to get to work. For my family, they are so excited. Right in the backyard. It's something you only hear about in stories. Not really something we even thought could happen, so now that it happened is really just a blessing and a dream come true."
