LANDOVER, Md., June 4, 2024 – The Washington Commanders and CBS affiliate WUSA9 have announced an exclusive television broadcast partnership that includes increased coverage of the team through two new WUSA-produced shows, including a weekly pregame show, and three Commanders-produced shows. The agreement also gives the station exclusive rights to broadcast the team's non-national preseason games.
As part of the agreement, WUSA9 is launching two new shows dedicated to Commanders' coverage. Commanders Kick-Off will be the ultimate pregame experience hosted by WUSA9's Chick Hernandez and Wisdom Martin. It will air every Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., beginning with week 1 on Sept. 8.
Commanders Weekly will highlight how the Commanders are leading by example and making a positive impact in the DMV community. The show will go beyond game strategy and focus on the organization's community impact. It will be hosted by Chick Hernandez on Thursdays from 7 to 7:30 p.m., also beginning with the 2024 season.
As part of the agreement, WUSA9 also will begin airing Commanders-produced shows The Gameplan, The Player's Club, and Command Center.
The Gameplan will give a glimpse into the mind of Head Coach Dan Quinn as he breaks down film with Logan Paulsen. The show will air from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. after WUSA9's Sunday morning local newscasts and will be followed by two widely viewed network news programs: CBS Sunday Morning and Face the Nation. Following Face the Nation, WUSA9 will air the Commanders pre-game show and then NFL Today. It debuts on Sept. 1.
Command Center is a weekly one-stop shop for news, analysis, and exclusive interviews. The show is hosted by Bryan Colbert Jr., with former players Santana Moss, Fred Smoot, and Logan Paulsen offering their takes. It will air on Saturdays at 11:35 p.m. following WUSA9's 11 p.m. local newscast. It debuts on June 8.
The Emmy-nominated The Player's Club, which will air after Command Center at 12:05 a.m., features hosts Santana Moss and franchise tackle leader London Fletcher sitting down with current and former players to talk football, life, and beyond. It debuts on Sept. 1.
The station also will air Commanders Log, the Commanders' behind-the-scenes, all-access documentary style show that follows players and coaches. This new show will offer fans an unprecedented look at the inner workings of the team under new leadership by head coach Dan Quinn.
Additionally, as part of this agreement, for the 2024 NFL preseason, WUSA9 will air the Commanders' first two preseason games against the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with WUSA9 to drive greater engagement with the team and create a broadcast television home for fans looking for more in-depth coverage of all things Commanders," said Jim Rushton, Chief Partnerships Officer for the Commanders. "Our overall goal is to provide access to original and exclusive content for Commanders fans wherever, whenever, and however they want to consume that content on Game Day and throughout the year. We appreciate the work that the entire team at WUSA9 has dedicated to its coverage of the Commanders and look forward to building on this relationship."
