Before wide receiver Ryan Grant played four years at Tulane University, and before he completed his first season with the Redskins, he grew up in Beaumont, Texas, honing his craft at West Brook High School.

This weekend, Grant returned to the king-sized (which, in Texas, is just normal-sized) football field with former high school teammate and current Seahawks running back Christine Michael to provide Southeast Texas kids, ages 8-18, a free football camp.

Kids were provided lunch and instruction before a series of 7-on-7 football games.

"It's amazing, man. I'm glad we had a pretty good turnout. I'm glad me and Christine Michael were able to do this," Grant said in an interview with a local station. "I'm just thankful for them to be able to provide this for the kids."

Grant and Michael have stayed close friends even during their time apart in college and the NFL.

"Me and C-Mike, we're cool, man. Everything's good," Grant said. "Whenever he needs anything, he hits me up; whenever I need anything, I'll holler at him. So it's not a big deal for us to come together to put this on."

Head coach Jay Gruden has been impressed with Grant so far, noting the strengths in his route-running ability and lack of mental mistakes. The problem he faces is that he's vying for a spot in a "crowded room" of receivers.

Grant, when asked about the team's chances for a turnaround this year, said he believes it can happen if everybody contributes and commits themselves to each other.

"Yeah, it's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication," Grant said. "We're going to need everybody to be in, you know what I mean? So we'll see what'll happen in a couple months."
