When your team has a talent like Josh Norman, it affords you certain luxuries.
Just ask Redskins safety Will Blackmon, who's thrilled to have Norman on his side, and more importantly, covering receivers.
"Every general manager has their own philosophy," Blackmon said. "This was a great opportunity for us as a team, for [Redskins general manager] Scot McCloughan to jump on if he's there, and we have him, why not?"
There's a reason why "All-Pro" is put in front of Norman's name when he's talked about: It's because he's one of the best shutdown cornerbacks in the game today.
Blackmon is looking forward to seeing Norman go up against the best wide receivers the NFL has to offer this season, too.
"We're in the NFC East," Blackmon said. "We go against [Giants wide receiver] Odell [Beckham Jr.] twice, we go against [Cowboys wide receiver] Dez [Bryant] twice. This year we have loaded schedule because we go against [Steelers wide receiver] Antonio Brown and then we have [Bengals wide receiver] AJ Green and we keep going so why not? [Cardinals wide receivers Larry] Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd, add [them] into it."
Blackmon joked a bit when he said he's glad that Norman gets those heavy assignments, instead of him having to mix it up with those players.
"If I'm playing safety this year I'm excited," Blackmon said. "You got them Josh.
"I think he is very exceptional because with him, he is super competitive. He does everything the right way, and he loves football. Just to work out and practice with him, his ball skills are awesome. His main thing is that he is super competitive, and extremely confident, and if you're a confident player that's going to help you because it's half the battle."
