Washington Redskins Cheerleader Tonee blogs about her first few days on the 55th Military Appreciation Tour, which is presented by GEICO Military.
Hey Redskins Nation!
I can't believe we're already halfway through our 55th Military Appreciation Tour to Afghanistan, and what a trip it's been! This is my first tour, and I feel truly blessed and honored to be here showing love and support to our troops.
In the last few days we've visited seven different military bases all over Afghanistan. To reach these bases, we flew in various military helicopters, as well as rode in armor-plated vehicles. For me, visiting these bases was one of the highlights of our trip. When I found out that it's been several years since anyone's visited some of these bases, it broke my heart. These servicemen and women risk their lives for us each and every day; so getting to speak with them to ease their minds - even if it was just for a few hours - was very rewarding. I loved hearing their stories of home, and just listening to them express their thoughts, feelings and opinions.
In-between visiting our soldiers, we performed two full shows and a pop-up performance. We ended each show with our signature dance called "Proud," which is a lyrical dance to "God Bless the U.S.A." This is always a favorite among the troops.
Overall, this has been the most amazing and humbling experience of my life. I've also come away with a bunch of new friends! Thank you Armed Forces Entertainment and GEICO Military for allowing us to bring a piece of home to the men and women of the armed forces.
Wishing all our servicemen and women a safe return home.
HTTR,
Tonee
