A key matchup in the NFC East race will be in the national spotlight in Week 7 when the Washington Redskins face the Philadelphia Eagles on ESPN's Monday Night Football. Kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Redskins continue to benefit from the versatility of running back Chris Thompson, the rusher/receiver/pass protector whom some fans have dubbed the "Chris Army Knife." Thompson is one of six NFL players with at least 175 rushing yards and 175 receiving yards this season. While three NFL backs (Thompson, LeSean McCoy and Todd Gurley) lead teams in both rushing yards and receptions, with team highs in rushing yards (175) and receiving yards (340), Thompson is the only NFL back to lead a team in both rushing and receiving yards.

Defensively, while linebackers Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith have garnered much of the pass rush acclaim, the rapid development of second-year defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis has been noteworthy. His 3.5 sacks are already tied for the fifth-most by a Redskins defensive lineman in a season since the team's move to a 3-4 base in 2010.

THE OPPONENT

The Philadelphia Eagles enter Week 7 at 5-1 and in first place in the NFC East. This season is the team's second season under the purview of Head Coach Doug Pederson.

Carson Wentz is the team's starter at quarterback in his second NFL season. This season, he has completed 126-of- 207 passes (60.9 percent) for 1,584 yards with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. Wentz's 13 touchdown passes are tied for second in the NFL.

Running back LeGarrette Blount leads the Eagles in rushing this year, having posted 390 rushing yards on 70 carries including one rushing touchdown. Wendell Smallwood has also added 113 rushing yards on 29 carries with one rushing touchdown.

Tight end Zach Ertz leads the Eagles in receptions (34), receiving yards (405) and is tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns (four). Nelson Agholor has also contributed with 20 receptions for 321 yards and four touchdowns.

Linebacker Nigel Bradham has posted a team-high 38 tackles (25 solo) through six games. Defensive end Brandon Graham leads Philadelphia with 4.0 sacks, while three Eagles — Rasul Douglas, Jalen Mills and Patrick Robinson — are tied for the team lead in interceptions (two each).

Jake Elliott handles kicking duties for the Eagles, while Donnie Jones handles the punting responsibilities. Elliott is 12-of-14 (85.7 percent) on field goal attempts this season. He is also 13-of-13 on PATs. Jones has averaged 45.7 yards on 23 punts.

Kenjon Barner has served as the team's primary punt returner in 2017, while Wendell Smallwood has handled kick returns. Barner has averaged 17.9 yards on seven punt returns. Smallwood has averaged 23.3 yards on four kick returns.
