The Washington Redskins will make their first prime time appearance of the 2018 season when they face the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football. Kickoff from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.

The match-up features one of the NFL's premiere defenses against one of the league's top scoring offensive units. The Redskins enter Week 5 following the bye week with the No. 2 ranked defense in points per game (14.7 avg.).

The Redskins are also ranked third in total yards per game (278.0 avg.) and passing yards per game (187.3 avg.). The unit has not allowed a 300-yard passer this season.

The Saints rank among the NFL's top five in yards per game (418.3 avg.) and points per game (34.3 avg.)

The offense will look to continue its versatility following a Week 3 win over Green Bay. Running back Adrian Peterson's career milestones have added incentives to the 2018 campaign. After passing Jim Brown for No. 10 on the NFL's all-time list for rushing yards in Week 1, Peterson recorded two rushing touchdowns against the Packers to take sole position of seventh on the NFL's all-time list.

THE OPPONENT

The New Orleans Saints enter the game with a 3-1 record, including three consecutive wins. Head coach Sean Payton returns for his 12th season, after leading the Saints to the postseason last year.

Quarterback Drew Brees continues to build on his Hall of Fame career, and is already off to a fast start this season. Brees is 122-for-161 for 1,295 yards and eight touchdowns over four games. Brees also needs just 201 yards to pass Peyton Manning and Brett Favre to become the NFL's all-time leader in passing yards.

Running back Alvin Kamara continues to build on his Rookie of the Year performance from last season, and will get reinforcements in the backfield with the return of Mark Ingram from suspension. Kamara has recorded 611 all-purpose yards, with 56 rushing attempts and 35 receptions, and a combined 6 touchdowns.

Wide receiver Michael Thomas has begun the year on fire, and is now fourth in the league in receiving yards. Thomas has 42 receptions for 445 yards and three touchdowns, and is on pace for a career year. Veteran tight end Benjamin Watson and the quick wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. round out a talented receiving corps.

Demario Davis and Cameron Jordan lead an explosive front seven for the Saints. Davis leads the team in tackles with 37, and has also forced a fumble and recorded two sacks. Jordan leads the team with four sacks, and has tallied 15 tackles in four games.

Defensive backs Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams lead the Saints against the passing game. Lattimore has 13 tackles and a forced fumble this season, while Williams has 15 tackles and an interception.

Veteran kicker Wil Lutz continues to be successful, hitting 10 of 11 field goals, including a long of 49 yards. The three year player from Georgia State owns a career field goal percentage of 85.2%. .

Monday's matchup between the Redskins and Saints is the second meeting on Monday Night Football and the 27th all-time meeting between the two franchises dating back to their first meeting on Sept. 24, 1967.

In their last meeting on Monday Night Football, the Redskins dropped a 20-3 decision to the Saints on Nov. 23, 1992.
