LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Women of Washington Redskins (WOW), the team's official women's fan club, and Redskins Salute, the team's official military appreciation club, will join forces with Papa John's to assemble hundreds of care packages for U.S. troops stationed overseas on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 6 – 8 p.m. in the team's Indoor Training Facility at Redskins Park (Ashburn, Va.).
To assemble the care packages, WOW and Redskins Salute members will be divided into two teams. Redskins players Darrel Young and Akeem Davis, alumni Dexter Manley and Ravin Caldwell, as well as Redskins Cheerleader Ambassadors, will serve as team captains. Each member of the team that assembles the most care packages will receive a grand prize. Grand prize details will be announced at a later date.
All care packages will be shipped to U.S. troops stationed overseas by Operation Gratitude, a non-profit organization whose mission is to lift spirits and meet the evolving needs of active duty and veteran communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for all Americans to express their appreciation to members of the military. Since its inception in 2003, Operation Gratitude volunteers have shipped more than one million care packages.
