LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The National Football League announced its 2015 regular season schedule tonight, and the Washington Redskins' schedule features three prime-time games including a Week 13 home contest against the Dallas Cowboys on ESPN's Monday Night Football.
The 2015 Redskins will open the season at home against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 13 in a 1 p.m. game to be aired on CBS. The following week, the Redskins will host the St. Louis Rams at FedExField for a 1 p.m. FOX telecast on Sept. 20. The back-to-back home games to open the season mark the first time the Redskins have opened a season with consecutive home contests since earning victories at FedExField in Weeks 1-2 of the 2011 season.
The Redskins will make their first national television appearance of the season in Week 3 when the team travels to face the New York Giants on CBS and NFL Network on Thursday, Sept. 24. The team will return home in Week 4 to face a second consecutive NFC East foe when the Redskins host the Philadelphia Eagles at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4 on FOX. The contest against the Eagles will be the Redskins' third home game in the season's first four weeks, marking the first time since 2003 that the Redskins will play three home games in the first four weeks of a season.
In Week 5, the Redskins will face the first of two consecutive rookie head coaches when the team squares off with Dan Quinn and the Atlanta Falcons in a 1 p.m. game on Oct. 11 on FOX. A week later on Oct. 18, the Redskins will face Todd Bowles and the New York Jets on FOX at 1 p.m. The Redskins will then return home for Week 7 to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 25, a game set to be televised by FOX at 1 p.m.
After a bye in Week 8, the Redskins will resume their season with a Nov. 8 road game against the New England Patriots at 1 p.m. on FOX. The Redskins will then face NFC South opponents in consecutive 1 p.m. games on FOX across Weeks 10-11, as the team will host the New Orleans Saints on Nov. 15 and play the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Nov. 22.
Following the two NFC South tilts, the Redskins will return to FedExField for two critical home games against NFC East rivals. On Nov. 29, the Redskins will face the New York Giants in a 1 p.m. game on FOX. The Redskins will then host the Dallas Cowboys for an 8:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN's Monday Night Football. The Dec. 7 contest will be the teams' 17th all-time meeting on Monday Night Football, the most recent having come in a 20-17 road overtime victory for the Redskins last season.
In Week 14, the Redskins will face the Chicago Bears in a 1 p.m. game at Soldier Field to be aired by FOX on Dec. 13. In Washington's last regular season game at Chicago, Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall tied an NFL record with four interceptions in a 17-14 win. On Dec. 20, the Redskins will play their final home game of the regular season, hosting the Buffalo Bills for a 1 p.m. CBS telecast in one of two historical Super Bowl rematches on the Redskins' 2015 schedule (Week 1 vs. Miami).
The Redskins will close the regular season with consecutive NFC East road games in Weeks 16-17. At 8:25 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26, the Redskins and Eagles will face one another at Lincoln Financial Field on NFL Network in a rematch of the Redskins' 27-24 Week 16 Saturday victory at FedExField last season. The Redskins will close the regular season on the road against the Cowboys on FOX on Jan. 3, marking the third time in the last four seasons that the teams will have squared off in the regular season finale. The Redskins are 4-3 in regular season finales against Dallas since the adoption of the 16-game schedule in 1978.
Redskins fans interested in attending 2015 Redskins home games at FedExField are encouraged to visit www.Redskins.com/Tickets, where they can join the season ticket waitlist and request premium seating information.
A select number of games across the league will be "cross-flexed," moving between CBS and FOX to bring potentially under-distributed games to wider audiences. Some of those contests were announced today while the remainder of "cross-flexed" games will be decided during the season.
"Flexible scheduling" will be used in Weeks 11-17. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-16, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights. A flexible scheduling move would be announced at least 12 days before the game. For Week 17, the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to Jan. 3. The schedule does not list a Sunday night game in Week 17, but an afternoon game with playoff implications will be moved to that time slot. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives "surprise" teams a chance to play their way into primetime.
