LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation announced today that DuVal High School head football coach, Carlos Lockwood, has been named the Redskins High School Coach of the Week presented by Inova Sports Medicine for the week of Sept. 12. This is Coach Lockwood's first season as head coach at DuVal High School. This past weekend, the Tigers advanced to 1-1 after beating Northwestern High School 12-6.
"Since being named head coach in early April, Coach Lockwood has dedicated himself to the success of his student-athletes," said Athletic Director, Jason Mattern. "Coach Lockwood has established an everlasting bond with his players that motivate them to go out a fight as Men of DuVal every week!"
Entering his first year as head coach, Lockwood has made a commitment to ensure the health & safety of all players in the program. Lockwood has participated in extra training sessions for concussion testing and has remained up to date with CPR and First Aid certifications.
Coach Lockwood is committed to instilling core values in his players that will help aid in their success both on and off the field. "What makes Coach Lockwood stand out is that he sees the bigger picture for the program, and, more importantly, his young men that have whole heartedly trusted in him to lead them into battle week in and week out," said Mattern.
A graduate of the Prince George's County Public Schools system, Coach Lockwood is no stranger to the local community. Mattern said, "Coach Lockwood has formed a unity among our parents, players, staff, and community that has blossomed since taking on the reigns as head coach.
