LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation announced today that Maret School head football coach, Mike Engelberg, has been named the Redskins High School Coach of the Week presented by Inova Sports Medicine for the week of Oct. 31.

Engelberg has coached varsity football at Maret for the past 11 years. This past weekend, the Frogs improved to 8-0 after defeating Flint Hill by a score of 43-14. With this victory, Maret secured its first Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC) title in school history.

Maret Athletic Director Liz Hall, who has worked at Maret for 28 years, says that Coach Engelberg is "the most positive and 'low-key' coach I have ever worked with. He genuinely cares about his student-athlete's academic achievement." During his 11 years at Maret, Coach Engelberg has seen 34 of his student-athletes go on to play football at the collegiate level.

Engelberg has an overall record of 56-35 during his tenure at Maret. The school's average enrollment for male students is 150 per year, and the team is comprised of athletes who play both offense and defense.

In addition to coaching football, Coach Engelberg serves as the middle school technology teacher and as an upper school academic advisor. As a parent of two Maret School students, Coach Engelberg is considered a "staple" in the school community.

When it comes to player safety, Coach Engelberg has taken necessary precautions to prevent player injuries, including eliminating live tackling during practice and using new and innovative equipment.

"Mike is passionate about the game" said Hall. "He is level-headed, honest, fair and is an amazing representative of our community.

The High School Coach of the Week program is a league-wide initiative designed to recognize area high school football coaches who continuously demonstrate hard work and dedication to their football programs, the health and safety of their players, and who make a difference in their communities. 

This season, in partnership with Inova Sports Medicine, the Redskins Charitable Foundation has convened a panel of local high school football media experts to provide nominations of deserving high school coaches for consideration and selection. Each coach chosen throughout the high school football season will receive a $2,000 donation from the Redskins Charitable Foundation to their football program and a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Redskins Head Coach Jay Gruden, Redskins President Bruce Allen and General Manager Scot McCloughan, as well as other giveaway items from the Redskins Charitable Foundation and Inova Sports Medicine.
