LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation (WRCF) and American Dairy Association North East (ADANE) teamed up to fight childhood obesity by hosting the Fuel Up to Play 60 Mini-Combine on Friday, June 1 at Redskins Park.
Redskins players Anthony Lanier II, Jeremy Sprinkle and Sam Irwin-Hill joined staff from ADANE to lead local elementary and middle school students through a Fuel Up to Play 60 Obstacle Course Tournament that included physical activity and nutrition style games. Students in attendance also learned from a local dairy farmer and participated in an awards banquet to recognize the achievements of each school during the 2017 – 18 school year.
All schools in attendance received the Touchdown School Award, which is given to Fuel Up to Play 60 schools that have demonstrated their commitment to the program and health and wellness by completing the program's six steps. The ten schools in attendance included:
Covington-Harper Elementary School (Prince William County Public Schools)
Hillside Elementary School (Loudoun County Public Schools)
Hutchinson Farm Elementary School (Loudoun County Public Schools)
Kenneth Culbert Elementary School (Loudoun County Public Schools)
Lovettsville Elementary School (Loudoun County Public Schools)
Lucketts Elementary School (Loudoun County Public Schools)
Monument Academy Public Charter (DC Public Charter School)
Oak View Elementary School (Fairfax County Public Schools)
Potowmack Elementary School (Loudoun County Public Schools)
Springhill Lake Elementary School (Prince George's County Public Schools)
"Events like this have such a large impact on children. They are able to experience firsthand the value of an active lifestyle and the importance of healthy eating," said Kristina Moher, Director of Youth Engagement, American Dairy Association North East. "The Fuel Up to Play 60 program has become an integral part of many schools, and we hope the program continues to grow."
Fuel Up to Play 60 is part of the NFL's larger Play 60 campaign, which fights childhood obesity by encouraging youth to get active for at least 60 minutes a day.
